Lets talk about pet peeves. There are a lot of them out there. Unfortunately I have been subjected to one of mine at least a handful of times in the past two weeks. Not one to normally jump on my soapbox, this time I feel I have no choice.
I can hold my hands up and say that I have been guilty of this in the past, and I know a lot of you reading this are BECAUSE I’VE HEARD YOU SAY IT! The conversations I’m talking about go something like this;
“Hey man, nice job – you killed that WOD! Great work!” only to be met with the response “no way, I totally scaled it, I used bands, blocks or lighter weight etc.“
So here’s there thing. IT DOESN’T MATTER! Do you honestly think that the people getting RX by their name are truly working any harder than you? If you go as hard as you possibly can during the WOD and give 90-100% effort and they do the same, how can you possibly say they are working harder? Everyone’s 90% is different – we wouldn’t have world-class athletes if it wasn’t!
What is my point? It’s pretty simple; quit saying ridiculous things like that! When you crush a workout and go balls to the wall and someone commends you for it, smile and say thank you! They aren’t saying it to make you feel good, they aren’t saying it to be nice, they are saying it because you just did an awesome job at something that was no doubt crazy hard. Just own it, receive the compliment, maybe even let it go to your head for a second. I guarantee you that if you start working out with that kind of attitude your RX dreaming will become a reality way faster!
